First Record of Spirotaenia erythrocephala (Mesotaeniaceae, Zygnematales) to Phycoflora of India

Abstract

The phyco-floristic exploration on aquatic habitats of Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, divulged the incidence of the species Spirotaenia erythrocephala Itzigs. of Mesotaeniaceae, from Chinnar river, Sadivayal for the first time in Indian waters. A detailed description, nature of habitat and its distributional pattern are discussed in this communication. The comparative taxonomic keys with Indian taxa and colour photo plate are provided for better understanding.
